The String Symphony, which is made up of Claire and Connor Gunsbury, Payge and Ashley Fitterer, Brooke Mimmack and Rudy and Joe Lipovetz won the 14-under division with a team score of 192 to advance to the USTA Junior Team Tennis Sectionals at the University of Minnesota July 24-25.
The 12U Aces finished second in the 12-under division to the Longview (Duluth) Shipwrecks. The Aces are made up of Garrett Goeden, Matthew Hintz, Evan Storbakken, Maria Bell, Libby Kurtzman and Mikaela Maki.
Maki was selected as the girls sportsmanship award winner with Sahen Rai of the Shipwrecks taking the boys title.
The 12-under sections will be played July 26 at the U of M.
Claire Gunsbury was the girls winner in the 14-under division. Elliot Schneider of the Longview Lakers was the boys selection.
In the 18-under division at the Brainerd High School, the Brainerd Aces topped the Brainerd Overheads for third place. Both Brainerd squads narrowly lost in the semifinals. The Aces fell to the Longview Seadogs, who eventually lost to the Hibbing Rangers in the finals.
