YOUTH BASEBALL: Brainerd qualifies, but falls in quarterfinals

The Brainerd 15-under team advanced to Sunday’s bracket round of the Gopher State tournament, but it was one and down for the home team, which was eliminated by Shoreview 12-2 in Brainerd.

Shoreview broke open a 2-1 game thanks to two Brainerd errors that resulted in five runs.

During Saturday’s pool play, Hayden Bukowski allowed only three hits and issued three walks, while striking out three in a complete game shutout as Brainerd routed Wayzata 10-0 at Central Lakes College.

Peter Dahl went 3-3 with an RBI for Brainerd and Tory Miller notched two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Taylor Streiff added a two-run double.

In the final round of pool play, Burnsville blanked Brainerd 11-0. Logan Madsen was tagged with the loss.

Brainerd’s 2-1 pool-play record helped them advance into the eight-team bracket tournament Sunday. They were the only non-metro team to advance.
