Area Golf News: Hughes and Boos putt way to first

NISSWA — Hondo Hughes and Fred Boos combined to shoot 54 to win the second annual Minnesota State Putting Championship July 28 at The Pines at Grand View Lodge.

Sixty players putted on all 27 greens of the Pines, with the Hughes and Boos combo needing the least amount. Jim McArthur and Dave Sufka shot 56 to tie with Gary and Karen Schmit for second.

Jackson Ronnei and Steve Austin fired a 59 for fourth place followed by 60s from Dan and Jeanne DeWolfe and Phil and Linda Dabill for fifth place.

There were also five hole-in-ones carded by Phil Dabill, Susan Rogers, Gary Schmit, Todd Pries and Mark Streed.
