AVON — Despite six errors, the Nisswa Lightning eliminated the Lastrup Lakers 6-4 in 10 innings Sunday to remain alive for a chance at the Region 8C championship.


Jason Roepke singled followed by an Aaron Jenkins walk. Mark Germain singled in Roepke with the game-winning run. Jenkins was caught in a run down and tagged out. Tyler Wittwer then singled in Germain for the insurance run.

Roepke, who pitched four innings of relief, got the red hot Rick Schlieman to pop up for the final out and the victory.

Roepke struck out four, walked one and allowed one run on three hits.

Reggie Litke was tagged with the loss. In three innings of relief, he struck out two, walked one and allowed two runs on four hits.

Roepke finished 3-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Jeremiah Piepkorn blasted two home runs to drive in three runs and Germain was 3-5 with an RBI and a run for Nisswa.

Schlieman was 4-5 with an RBI and a run. Jason Sadlovsky was 2-4 with a sacrifice and an RBI and Brandon Lochner hit a double and scored a run for Lastrup.

The loss eliminated Lastrup from the playoffs, but the Lakers secured the No. 4 seed in the state tournament. Lastrup will play 5 p.m. Aug. 17 in St. Cloud in the 48-team, single-elimination tournament.

Saturday’s games

Nisswa 6, Buckman 0

AVON — Nisswa Lightning’s Logan Kalis struck out 11, walked four and allowed four hits in Saturday’s 6-0 complete-game victory over the Buckman Billygoats in the Region 8C loser’s bracket.

Jeremiah Piepkorn once again provided the pop as he went 2-5 with a home run, three RBIs and a run. Aaron Jenkins went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Drew Boland went 2-5 with an RBI and a run and Mike Zauhar provided a 2-3 performance with a sacrifice and an RBI for the Lightning.

Joe Kahl, Jeremy Monson, Pete Oldakowski and Ben Boser picked up the hits for Buckman, who was eliminated from the tournament.

AVON — Chad Weiss struck out 14, walked one and allowed three runs on six hits to lift the Lastrup Lakers past the St. Stephen Steves 5-3 Saturday in the loser’s bracket of the Region 8C tournament.

Weiss also provided an RBI and a run for Lastrup, which saw Jason Sadlovsky go 3-4 with a double, stolen base and two runs scored. Dustin Schmaltz was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Lakers.
