AREA GIRLS TENNIS: Gobblers edge Crosby-Ironton 4-3

AITKIN — Claire Browning improved her record to 10-3 with a No. 1 singles win over Gabrelle Hudrlik as Aitkin edged Crosby-Ironton 4-3 Monday in a non-conference meet.

“It was exciting tennis,” Aitkin coach Cindy Walz said. “I think Claire cemented herself as one of the top tennis players in the section.”

The match was decided by a No. 4 singles win by Megan Lawson over C-I’s Mariah Oren.

“It was fun to watch Megan pull it out in two sets,” Walz added.

The Gobblers’ No. 1 doubles team of Lindy Lahmann-Sharbonda and Lisa Anderson also extended their season record to 10-3.

Taylor Smith-Paige Westerlund registered Aitkin’s win at No. 3 doubles.

PIERZ — Becca Froelich-Shelbie Boser and Morgan Waytashek-Stephanie Brill picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles as Pierz was defeated by St. Cloud Cathedral 5-2 Monday in a non-conference meet.
