VERNDALE — Quarterback Dillon Card ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third to lead the Verndale Pirates past the Bertha-Hewitt Bears 36-12 in a Pheasant North Conference game Friday.

Trailing 6-0 after the first quarter, the Pirates exploded for 28 points in the second starting with a 21-yard run by Dakota Finck. Card scored on runs of one and three yards along with a 46 yard pass to Dallas Ehrmantraut for a 28-6 halftime lead.

Finck scored his second touchdown on a run of 31 yards in the third stanza and finished with 163 rushing yards on 19 attempts.

Card racked up 176 offensive yards carrying 18 times for 80 yards and completing four of six passes for 96 yards.
