FOOTBALL: Willmar defeats Warrior sophomores

The Brainerd Warrior sophomore football team was defeated by the Willmar Cardinals 42-16 Thursday.

Willmar built a 22-6 halftime lead as it made big third down plays to keep their drives alive against the Warrior defense.

Evan Brecht scored the lone first-half touchdown for Brainerd on a 2-yard run.

The Warriors moved the ball most of the day, but turned it over four times to end drives without scoring.

Brecht scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. Chris Veith ran for a 3-yard touchdown to round out the scoring for Brainerd.

Jaquan Cogshell intercepted a pass for the Warrior defense.

The sophomore team travels to Bemidji next Thursday to play the Lumberjacks at 5 p.m.
