Area Golf News: Brandon lord of the putters
Bonnie Brandon needed just 22 putts Sept. 11 to win the putting challenge during women’s night at Cragun’s Legacy Courses.
Nancy McDonald and Lori Rich tied for second with 23 putts. Five players tied for fourth with 24 putts. They were: Kim Larson, Tina Johnson, Connie Bender, Ali Timmons and Kari Anderson.
Jane White, Johnson, Mary Lang, Rich and Brandon carded hole-in-one putts.
Heather Carey, Larson each hit the longest drives on the front nine. Katy Kalenberg hit both the longest drives on the back nie.
Deb Cranny, Mary Lippo, Rich and Timmons were all closest to the marker.
■ Pink Ribbon Cupboard winners
Joan Hasskamp and Candace Prigge teamed up again, this time to win the inaugural Pink Ribbon Cupboard scramble Sept. 13 at Madden’s Pine Beach East.
Hasskamp and Prigge won the Pink Ribbon Classic at Grand View Lodge’s The Pines earlier this season. This time they were matched with Renee Rivard and Sheila Skogen to win in a scorecard playoff.
Pam Musielewicz, Rox Thompson, Bunny Caughey and Jean Martin finished second.
Bunny Oseland made the longest putt. Martin was pin hunting and Thompson nailed the longest drive.
■ WOW winners
Susan Walstrom, Marlys Gus, Shari Loechler and Sally Larson won a tiebreaker to capture the Women of Whitefish yearly event Sept. 12 at Whitefish Golf Club.
The event was a step aside scrmable and the winning team knocked off Barb DeLaHunt, Carol Lovro and Mary Scarborough.
Maxine Riches, Barb Smith, Kathy Keeling and Jo Tollefson placed third.
Sharon Engman won the marshmellow drive, Myra Faust won the chip into the bucket game and Susan Beilfuss captured the putt through the cactus contest.
■ Whitefish women
Anita Stensby shot net 35 to win the Whitefish women’s 18-hole league event Sept. 12.
Maxine Riches finished second followed by Susan Walstrom in third.
Sharon Sullivan won flight B with a net 30. Marlys Guse placed second with Roxane Thompson in third.
Joi Brandt captured flight C with a net 34. Darlene Bonnema topped Mary Jean Herdey for second.
Brandt’s net 66 was the low net of the day. She also recorded the longest putt and had a chip in. Kantos also sank a birdie.
Barb Holubar and Sullivan hit the longest drives.
Wednesday is the last regularly scheduled league event.
■ Heggerston second
MEDINA — Maggie Heggerston of Pequot Lakes fired a 9-over-par 83 Sept. 16 at Baker National Golf Course to place second in the season-opening event of the Minnesota Section Junior PGA fall event.
Heggerston, who carded two birdies in her round, was one shot behind winner Madi Roe.
■ Golftoberfest scheduled
Grand View Lodge Resort in Nisswa will hosts its third annaul KFAN GOLFtoberest Oct. 12-14 at the resort’s three championhship golf courses.
The weekend, open to both golfers and non-golfers, will include lodging, breakfast daily and unlimited golf with carts, in addition to a Saturday night party.

Jim Olson, Maple Grove, aced the 128-yard 17th hole at Eagles Landing Sept. 7 with a 9-iron.
Joel Smith, Walhalla, N.D., aced the 110-yard ninth hole of Bobby’s Legacy at Cragun’s Legacy Courses Sept. 14 using a gap wedge.
Chris Yde, Brainerd, aced the 160-yard first hole at Madden’s Pine Beach East Sept. 16 using a 5-iron.
Jim Knutson, Baxter, aced the 170-yard third hole at Eagle’s Landing Sept. 12 using a driver.
Ryan Mikota, Maple Grove, aced the 155-yard 12th hole at Black Bear Golf Course Sept. 18 using a 6-iron.
