FOOTBALL: Warrior freshmen shut out Bemidji

The Brainerd Warriors freshman football team defeated Bemidji 14-0 at Shew Field at Franklin Arts Center Thursday.

In the first quarter, an interception by linebacker Jacob Weldon set up a 35-yard pass from quarterback Josh Howieson to receiver Chris Pederson. Allen Jevning then scored on a 1-yard run and Riley Fabian kicked the first of two extra points for a 7-0 lead.

Brainerd defensive backs Fabian and Brady Mick recovered fumbles in the second quarter. Brainerd closed the half with a 1-yard TD run by Mitch Rahn and led 14-0.

In the second half, Brainerd’s defense notched two more fumble recoveries, this time by linemen Arron Martin and James Stroot.

Jevning finished with 103 yards rushing and Rahn 90. Howieson connected with Pederson twice for 58 yards and once to tight end Devin Fiedler for 20. Fiedler finished with two catches for 47 yards.

The Warriors (3-1) play next Thursday at St. Cloud Apollo.
