College Volleyball: Raiders drop two at NDSCS tourney

Raiders drop two at NDSCS tourney

WAHPETON — The level of competition for the Central Lakes Raiders was drastically improved Saturday during the North Dakota School of Science tournament.

The Raiders saw its 13-match win streak snapped as they fell to Bismarck 3-0 and Williston 3-1.

Sami Knott registered eight kills and seven digs against Bismarck. Sarah Miller added 16 digs, Tiffany Hartung 23 set assists and Lindsay Monson six kills.

“Both of these teams were better teams than we have been playing against for awhile,” said Raiders head coach Jane Peterson. “We weren’t quite ready for that against Bismarck. And Williston was one of the best teams we have played all year. We didn’t play like we needed to.”

The Raiders won Game One against Williston before dropping the final three. Alanna Hansen totaled 12 kills and two blocks. Hartung finished with 32 set assists and 12 digs.

Monson added 10 kills, five ace serves, five digs and four blocks for the 14-5 Raiders.

“We just couldn’t quite put the ball away as often as we needed to,” Peterson said. “They were both really good defensive teams. That was a drastic difference from the day before. It was a little frustrating in the second match. We played well and we were right with them. We had a chance.”

Peterson and the Raiders will return to Southern Division play 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against Fond du Lac at Central Lakes College. That’s when Peterson, who already owns the most career wins among active NJCAA Division III coaches will go for her 500th career victory.
