Warriors Swimming and Diving: Warriors knock off Melrose

MELROSE — Fallon Ryan won the 200- and 500-yard freestyles and Beth Etterman won the diving as the Brainerd Warriors edged out the Melrose Dutchmen in a non-conference meet Tuesday.

Ryan won the 200 with a time of 2:05.07 and the 500 free in 5:41.43. Etterman scored a 230.45 on six dives. Lonie Anderson was second in diving with a 195.45.

“The farthest apart that the score was ever separated was four points with that going back and forth,” said Brainerd head coach Dan Anderson. “We were up 87-85 going to the last event and we won it by four tenths of a second. I have never heard it so loud in my life. Our divers did really well. We just had every kid step up and do their job and it was a great meet for us.”

The team of Alyssa Williams, Reilly Peterson, Hannah McKeag and Ryan swam a winning time of 3:48.72 in the 400 free relay.
