Area Volleyball: W-DC dominates conference foe

WADENA — Emily Miron posted 18 kills and Caitlin Volkmann added nine more in Wadena-Deer Creek’s 3-0 Mid-State Conference win over the Staples-Motley Cardinals Thursday.

Heather Theisen contributed 35 set assists and four ace serves.

Theresa Odden led the Cardinals with four kills and 24 digs.

VERNDALE — Teresa Moenkedick contributed 24 kills, 32 digs, one block, one set assist and one ace serve as Verndale stretched its win streak to five by defeating Pillager 3-1 in Park Region Conference play Thursday.

Kelly Mast led Pillager with four ace serves and 29 set assists, while Katie Gilson added 13 kills for the Huskies.

Sarah Moenkedick added one kill, one block, 23 set assists and 13 digs for the Pirates, while Jordyn Glenz added eight kills, two blocks and 31 digs.

AITKIN — Mikayla Michaletz recorded 14 kills and 11 digs to help propel the Aitkin Gobblers to their eighth-straight victory with Thursday’s 3-1 Great River Conference win over Rush City.

Michaletz added four ace serves and four blocks. Kassie Kokesh tallied 12 kills, 21 set assists and five digs and Jenae Heron posted 14 digs and 10 kills for the 11-5 Gobblers, who have won 24 of their last 27 games.

Tuesday the Gobblers travel to Onamia for a chance to avenge their only conference loss of the season.

ROCKFORD — Tiara Hopkins tallied 18 digs to help lead the Pierz Pioneers to their third consecutive win with a 3-1 victory over the Rockford Rockets in Central Minnesota Conference action Thursday.

Bridget Bednar added 16 kills and Jessica hawks finished with 27 set assists for the Pioneers, who are undefeated in conference play.
