COLLEGE BASEBALL: UW-Superior hires BHS grad as assistant coach
Brainerd High School graduate Rhett Williamson has been hired as an assistant baseball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Williamson’s responsibilities with the Yellowjackets will include coaching infield and hitting instruction. He will also be a coordinator for the Youth Yellowjacket Baseball camps.
A volunteer coach for the Yellowjackets last season, Williamson played four seasons for the Yellowjackets and was part of head coach Eddy Morgan’s first recruiting class at UW-Superior in 2007-08, a class recognized helping build the program into what it is today.
The Brainerd native played shortstop for the Yellowjackets four seasons, earning honorable mention on the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team in 2011. As team captain his senior season, he batted .310, and led the team in runs, walks, and stolen bases.
Williamson is a UW-Superior graduate, earning a bachelor of science degree in mathematics in 2011. He is working toward completing a masters degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
BHS grads Robbie Veith and Tom Fairbanks are members of the UWS team.
