Area Football: Pierz shut down in second half

HOLDINGFORD — Josh Lanners rushed for 164 yards and scored a touchdown but the third-seeded Pierz Pioneers were eliminated from the Section 6-2A playoffs by No. 2 seeded Holdingford Saturday 42-21.

T.J. Hoheisel and Nathan Athman also scored rushing touchdowns for Pierz, but all the Pioneers points came in the first half.

After a 21-21 halftime lead, Holdingford broke it open in the second half to advance to the section championship.

Pierz, the defending section champions, finished the season 8-2.
