Area Volleyball: W-DC advances to Section 8-2A championship

PERHAM — Emily Miron pounded 24 kills while adding 11 blocks and six digs as the No. 2 Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines dispatched top seeded Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton with a 3-0 sweep in Tuesday’s South Subsection 8-2A championship.

Heather Theisen scooped 14 digs and added 39 set assists while Caitlin Volkmann notched 12 kills and 30 digs.

The Wolverines were ranked ninth in the final Class 2A poll and had lost to the Rebels in the regular season finale.

“We played a good game and had the momentum. When we lost to them earlier in the season we let them take the momentum, but we kept it tonight,” Wadena-Deer Creek head coach Sue Volkmann said.

The Wolverines will face off against Thief River Falls on Saturday with a trip to the Class 2A state tournament at stake.
