HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Hahn inducted into coaches hall of fame

Former Brainerd High School head coach and former Central Lakes College assistant Heidi Hahn was inducted into the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Wednesday night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in St. Paul.

Hahn was inducted as a player, coach and contributor.

She was a 2-time all-state setter at Concordia Academy in Roseville where she and the Beacons won the Class 1A state title in 1987 and played in the 1988 state tournament.

Hahn went on to play Division I volleyball at Montana State University where she ranks ninth on the school’s all-time set assist.

At BHS, she was head coach of the Warriors for six years and an assistant for one. While with the Warriors, she was named section coach of the year.

Later, Hahn was an assistant for five years at CLC and the Raiders won the 2007 Division III national title.

Hahn has been on the MVCA Board of Control since 2003. She was president of the association from 2003-06.

Since 2006, she has organized the state coaches clinic, which has been identified as one of the top coaches clinics in the country.

Hahn is also in her fourth year as a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Each year she attends the NCAA Division I finals and works with the top 24 high school players in the nation, who play in the Under Armor All-American match, which is televised by ESPN.

She has worked with Jeff Groves of Apple Valley, who was the other MVCA inductee, to keep the state tournament at the Xcel Center in St. Paul.

Hahn is assistant director of special education with the Paul Bunyan Education Cooperative in Brainerd. She’s working on completing her doctorate degree in educational administration and leadership and plans to graduate in May. She hopes to return to coaching volleyball next fall.
