COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: W-DC standout signs with NDSU
Wadena-Deer Creek senior Emily Miron signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent Wednesday to play Division I volleyball at North Dakota State University in 2013.
“Emily is very athletic,” W-DC coach Sue Volkmann said in a news release. “She has tremendous growth ahead of her. Her jumping ability will be an asset to the team, and she has extremely long arms and legs.”
Miron, a 6-2 middle hitter, began playing varsity volleyball her freshman year. Her sophomore year, she became a starter and at season’s end received All-Mid-State Conference honorable mention and Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Team honorable mention.
Her junior year, she was named to the All-Mid-State Conference team, the St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State Team, the Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Team, the Class 2A All-State team and the 2A state all-tournament team.
In the summer of 2012, Miron was invited to play volleyball in the Australia Down Under Sports program, where she tied for MVP honors.
This fall, Miron was named to the Class 2A All-State Team.
She helped W-DC earn trips to state in 2009 (consolation champions), 2010 (state champions) and 2011 (fourth place.) In addition to volleyball, Miron is also a standout in basketball for the Wolverines, scoring her 1,000th career point last season.
Off the court, she is a member of the National Honor Society, CHAMP Coalition, band, choir and is a student leader in her church youth group.
Miron plans to enroll in the pharmacy program at NDSU.
