BOWLING: Little Falls remains first in traveling league

deadline Dec. 21

The deadline to register for the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department’s Pond Hockey program is Dec. 21.

Cost is $35 per participant. Helmets, shin guards, elbow pads and jerseys are provided. A limited number of breezers are also available. Each participant must provide their own stick, skates and mouthguard.

The Penguins are ages 7-10 and Polar Bears are ages 11-15. Ages are determined as of Jan. 1, 2013. Both leagues are for boys and girls.

The season will begin Jan. 3 and culminate with the pond hockey jamboree at Brainerd Area Civic Center Feb. 23. Practices are once or twice a week, depending on the coach’s schedule. Games are played Saturday mornings at Brainerd, Baxter or Nisswa, depending on the schedule.

Equipment handout and a parents’ meeting will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 22 at the Mill Avenue Park warming house.

Register at the Lum Park office during regular business hours. A mail-in registration form can be found at Mail-in registrations must be received by Dec. 21.

Volunteer coaches are needed.

■ Little Falls remains first

in traveling bowling league

Little Falls remained in first place but the Central 8 Traveling Classic Bowling League tightended up in the third meeting of the season Sunday at Milaca Bowling Center.

High team series was by Milaca with 3,056, McGregor 2,983 and Wadena 2,978.

High team game was by Milaca with 1,079, McGregor 1,077 and Wadena 1,067.

High individual series was by Jeremy Freitag of Wadena with an 815, Larry Birkedahl of McGregor 745 and Bill Andersen of Milaca 717.

High individual game was by Jeremy Freitag of Wadena with 297, Mike Almer of Brainerd 277 and Bill Andersen of Milaca and Larry Birkedahl of McGregor with 267s.

Next meeting will be at Wadena at 10 a.m. Dec. 16.
