DANCE TEAM: Warriors in two competitions this weekend
The Brainerd Warriors will compete in the Central Lakes Conference jazz competition at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Willmar.
Brainerd is in first place in the conference going into this meet, having won the kick portion of CLC competition earlier this month.
“We are anxious to put our routine before the CLC judges,” Warriors coach Cindy Clough said. “We feel like we have a strong jazz routine this year as well as skilled athletes. We brought it out at the show and have improved it immensely since then.
“We performed locally at a basketball game on Tuesday to practice before a crowd and were very pleased with our dancers. They look very technical and have worked very hard to get to the level they are performing at.
“The first meet of the season is always exciting as you have not seen the routines and skill levels of the other teams you are up against. We are feeling pretty confident in our team.”

■ The Warriors will compete again Saturday at the Maple Grove Invite.
“We will get to see some strong teams so we are excited to get out on the floor in the metro,” Clough said.
Top teams like Andover, Tech, Maple Grove, Mounds View, Moorhead, Osseo, Eden Prairie and Chanhassen are scheduled to compete.
“Maple Grove has been winning all year in jazz and annually is one of the top two jazz teams in Class 2A in the state so we specifically wanted to compete against them for the challenge,” Clough said. “Eden Prairie will be there and in kick they edged us out at state last year, so we are excited to compete against them. We went back and forth with them last year.
“It will be a tiring day as we will be up late from Willmar and our division ended up being the early one on Saturday, so energy will have to be our focus. We dance third in the kick lineup and seventh in jazz.”
