Wrestling: Warriors win last 6 matches, beat Apollo for first time in 5 years

Leading just 23-20 after eight matches, the Brainerd Warriors won the remaining six to soundly defeat the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles 59-20 in Thursday’s Central Lakes Conference meet at Brainerd High School.

After an opening 2-1 loss at 106, the remaining 13 matches were decided by pins, technical falls or forfeit with the Warriors securing 10 of the 13.

According to Brainerd co-head coach Mike Boran, “We hadn’t beaten Apollo for several years, but we took it to them tonight. It felt pretty good.”

The win was Brainerd’s first against the Eagles since Dec. 11, 2007, snapping a string of six straight dual-meet losses to Apollo.

Also registering pins for the Warriors were Andy Schlosser, Drew Bruen, Dan Babineau, Luke Boran, Casey Biever and Sam Adams.
