AREA BOYS BASKETBALL: Hornets sting St. Francis for 8-point win

BAXTER — Hayden Brooks led the scoring for the Lake Region Christian School Hornets as they beat St. Francis 53-45 in a Minnesota Association of Christian Schools game Saturday.

Daniel Newton, who scored his 1,000th career point Friday, added seven points before leaving the game with a hamstring injury 13 minutes into the first half. That left the Hornets without one of their highest-scoring players, and allowed St. Francis to take a 26-19 lead at halftime. Jake Christenson stepped up in Newton’s absence, scoring 10 points and leading Lake Region with nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals as the Hornets pulled ahead in the second half for their second conference win.

Ryan Christenson and Matt Weidell each added nine points for the Hornets.

“What a fun game,” said Hornets head coach Mike Snow. “We really pulled out all the stops during that second half.”
