Area Girls Hockey: Lightning strike 13 times

BLAINE — Sam Henrichs and Kaylyn Eggena combined for four goals and five assists and the Lightning racked up a 47-2 shots on goal advantage to defeat Worthington 13-1 in the opening round of the Schwan Cup Green Division Thursday.

Eggena finished with two goals (scored 12 seconds apart) and three assists while Henrichs contributed two goals and a pair of assists. Mariah Reed added three assists and a goal.

Also scoring goals for the Lightning were Alex Palm, Ashley Kosloski, Sam Gutzman, Morgan Demars, Kim Jessen, Britta Brittner, Courtney Kittock and Isabella Abear.

BLAINE — Morgan Zeise scored two goals in Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek’s 7-4 loss to Luverne in Thursday’s opening round of the White Division in the Schwan Cup.

Also scoring for LPGE/WDC were Samantha Killian and Brooke Umland.

Goalie Angela Hanson turned aside 27 shots for the Blue Devils, who have lost three straight.
