BOYS HOCKEY: Warriors move to consolation championship game
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Cole Smith’s overtime goal lifted the Brainerd Warriors past Bismarck Century 3-2 Friday, and into the consolation championship game at the Grand Forks Tournament.
Smith’s goal, with an assist from Jacob Ellingson and Logan Rivard, came at 1:49 of the overtime period.
The Warriors, who tallied 29 shots on goal, will face Bismarck High in the consolation championship game Saturday.
Ellingson scored on an assist from Jed Rusk, and Rivard lit the lamp for Brainerd, with assists going to Smith and Nate DeChaine, as the Warriors built a 2-0 first-period lead.
Century came back with two goals to end the first period tied 2-2.
Warriors goaltender Kyle Helmberger didn’t allow another goal for the rest of the game and finished with 22 saves.
