Area Boys Basketball: Hornets win two

KARLSTAD — Karlstad left Abe Indieke wide open.

With Friday’s score tied 26-26 between Karlstad and Lake Region Christian, the Hornets set up a play to get the ball into the hands of their 1,000-point scorer Daniel Newton. But Karlstad was locked on Newton leaving Indieke wide open to hit a 3-pointer at a buzzer to lead Lake Region to a 29-26 victory.

Indieke finished with five points. Caleb Anderson collected 11 boards to go with four points. Newton finished with two points and five assists and Matt Weidell totalled four steals and a team-high eight points helping the Hornets improve to 6-4.

KARLSTAD — Hayden Brooks scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked one shot as Lake Region beat Chisago 51-36 in its opening game in the tournament Friday.

Matt Weidell scored four points, dished off seven assists and collected five steals for the Hornets, who received 14 points from Daniel Newton.
