GIRLS BASKETBALL: Spartans surge past Warriors

The Brainerd Warriors built an early lead but shooting and turnovers caused their downfall in a 63-27 loss to the Rocori Spartans in a Central Lakes Conference game Saturday afternoon at Brainerd High School.

Brainerd seized a 14-7 lead, then watched Rocori go on 24-0 run.

The Warriors finished with 30 turnovers and shot just 23 percent from the field, 45 percent at the foul line.

“We’ve just got to slow down, see the floor and make open, easy passes, and try to speed up the game,” Warriors coach Brian McAllister said. “And, we’ve got to make our shots.”

Taylor Johnshoy led Brainerd with nine points. Maria West and Mikinze Boeder each grabbed seven rebounds for the Warriors, who have lost four games in a row and travel to Fergus Falls Tuesday to play Class 3A’s top-ranked and unbeaten Otters.
