BOXING: Merrifield's Herron wins on Wadena card

Blake Herron of Merrifield defeated Wadena’s John Johnson at 145 pounds in one of 10 bouts on a Golden Gloves Boxing card Saturday night at the Wadena National Guard Armory.

In the main event, Wadena’s T.J. Steward (148) defeated Amar Kovacevic of Red River Golden Gloves.

Crosby’s Luke Genz (165) defeated Seth Carpenter of Fergus Falls.

Other Wadena winners included Tristan Powers (95) over Sam Lavoy Burnette of White Earth; Nicola Schulz (120) over Sidney Johnson of White Earth; and Albert Boldt (124) over Damen Lachman of Savage Boxing.

In other bouts, it was Samantha Lucero (112) of Detroit Lakes over Emily Boldt of Wadena; Chase Metelak (130) of Detroit Lakes over Owen Ranklev of Red River Golden Gloves; Joe James (162) of St. Cloud Golden Gloves over Micah Cole of Wadena; and Joey Suda (170) of Red River Golden Gloves over Dustin Zablocki of St. Cloud.
