Area Wrestling: Gobblers wrestle to victory

AITKIN — The Aitkin Gobblers made it five straight dual meet wins with a 40-31 Great River Conference win over Hinckley-Finlayson Friday.

Pins by Brian Wold, Jerod Novak and Alan Bast led a charge by the Gobblers in getting five straight wins in the middle weight classes to build a 40-13 lead.Tyler Bare also recorded a pin for Aitkin.

Pierz wins three

PIERZ — The Pierz Pioneers won all three matches of Friday’s quadrangular to improve to 17-2 on the season.

The Pioneers defeated Paynesville 53-12, Sauk Rapids 55-18, and Crosby-Ironton by a 50-15 score.

Brad Meyer swept his matches and upped his season record to 19-3. Travis Johnson went 2-0 to move to 17-5.

Brandon Sullivan, Chris Ortman, Jordan Goebel, Josh Lanners, Nick Lochner and Ryley Smude all finished 3-0.
