Boys Basketball: Warriors pick up rare win at Rocori
COLD SPRING — Marcus Comstock’s 27 points led four other Brainerd Warriors who reached double figures during Saturday’s 80-71 Central Lakes Conference victory over the Rocori Spartans.
Jack Sauer tallied 14 points, seven steals and six rebounds. Tony Sauer came off the bench to contribute 11 points and three assists while Jacob Blong and Ian Haug each scored 10 points for the 11-0 Warriors. Blong also led the Warriors with nine rebounds.
“We are continuing to get opponents best efforts,” said Warriors head coach Scott Stanfield. “We have to be ready to meet their energy early on in games. This was a huge conference win on the road and we are happy with the kids’ effort and intensity. Defensively we missed some rotations and gambled at times for steals. We’ll need to clear that up.”
Brainerd forced Rocori into 20 turnovers, but the Spartans shot 55 percent from the field.
The Warriors committed 18 turnovers of their own.
This is only the third win at Rocori in the last 21 years for Brainerd, which is 11-0 for the first time since the 1960-61 season when Brainerd started 20-0. The last time Brainerd won at Rocori was Jan. 10, 2009.
Brainerd is the only unbeaten team remaining in Class 4A.
