AREA WRESTLING: Eighth-ranked Pierz wins 18th straight dual

LONG PRAIRIE — The Pierz Pioneers, ranked eighth in Class 1A, collected nine pins in rolling past Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 60-9 in a non-conference meet Tuesday.

Brandon Sullivan improved his record to 16-2, while Josh Lanners pinned his opponent and stayed unbeaten at 11-0.

It was the 18th straight dual meet win for the Pioneers.

Little Falls wins pair

ALEXANDRIA — Joe Reis and Trysten Ross finished with three pins collectively, and led the way for Little Falls in a sweep of two meets in Tuesday’s Alexandria triangular.

The Flyers trailed Alexandria 27-17 before getting three straight pins from Tyler Gastecki, Reis, and Ross to finish off a 41-33 win.

In the meet against the Lumberjacks, the Flyers trailed after the first three matches before coming back to win 45-21. Reis and Ross each scored wins to turn a 12-point lead into an insurmountable 21-point deficit for Alexandria.

MAHNOMEN — Tristin Godel raised his win streak to nine matches, and improved his record to 9-3, as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines finished fifth at the Mahnomen-Waubun dual meet tournament Monday.

Devin Barthel improved to 11-6, while Carter Wright (6-6) and Josh Lawson (10-10) evened their records.

Pins from Caleb Monson (220) and Tristian Baker (285) enabled W-DC to nip Mahnomen-Waubun 41-39 in the consolation semifinals. It was Baker’s first pin of the season.
