GIRLS BASKETBALL: Grand Rapids defeats Warriors

GRAND RAPIDS — The Brainerd Warriors played solid defense, holding Grand Rapids to just 19 first-half points, but were doomed by poor shooting in a 55-44 loss to the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

Maria West led the Warriors with 16 points, and was followed by Katelyn Johnson and Heather Fletcher who each scored 10.

Brainerd shot 31 percent from the field, but just 2-12 from the foul line.

“Our shooting was cold but we were down by just four at the half due to our defense,” said Warriors coach Brian McAllister. “We just couldn’t buy a shot and couldn’t make free throws, but the girls played hard.”

The loss to the Thunderhawks was the eighth in a row for the Warriors.
