Wrestling: Boran reaches 100 in Warrior win

Senior Luke Boran pinned Mitchell Schwinghammer in 1:49 to become the 12th Brainerd Warrior to reach 100 career victories in Brainerd’s 62-12 Central Lakes Conference victory Thursday over Rocori at Brainerd High School.

Boran, who was one of 11 Brainerd victories Thursday, now owns a 100-45 career record.

“I didn’t even know I was wrestling for 100 wins,” said Luke Boran. “They kept it a secret from me. I was just wondering if I was going to get a match tonight because (Rocori) only brought six guys.

“Once I got out there it wasn’t too tough of a match and afterward they were holding up signs that said 100.”

Boran joins Andy Pickar, Tyler Jensen, Chris Studer, Nick Lingwall, Tom Zelinske, Jim Caughey, Kyle Dukowitz, Jake Patnode, Chad Ohman, Ryan Smith and Matt Ostrowski.

“It’s an awesome feeling being part of that group,” said Luke Boran. “With my dad being the coach I saw those guys wrestle, well some of them at least. Just seeing how great they were and now I’m on a list with them is kind of unbelievable.”

Tommy Schlosser pinned his opponent in 51 seconds and Matt Malloy won by a technical fall. James Weiss recorded a 3-2 decision for Brainerd. All other Warrior victories were by forfeit.

“We knew coming into the match that they were going to be short some wrestlers,” said Warrior head coach and Luke Boran’s father Mike Boran. “It was nice to see Luke get his 100th win. It was also nice to come out on top in a conference match. Now we’ll just keep building from here.”
