BIATHLON: Roberts wins twice in regional event

Former Nisswa Northwest biathlete and 2010 Olympian Wynn Roberts won two races in the regional biathlon championships hosted by the Minnesota National Guard last weekend at Camp Ripley.

In Friday’s 10-kilometer men’s sprint race with two shooting stages, Roberts won by shooting 3,2, in 29:21.

He was followed in fourth place by CJ Merhar, 18, Bemidji, NNW, shooting clean in 34:37. Eleventh was Pelle Christiansen, Nisswa, NNW, shooting 2,2, in 41:21. In 18th was Josh Duda, Pillager, NNW, shooting 2,4, in 44:42 and in 21st was Evan Ingebrigtson, Baxter, NNW, shooting 3,1, in 45:47.

In Saturday’s 12.5 km men’s pursuit race with four shooting stages, Roberts won by shooting 1,1,1,3, in 38:10. Merhar finished fourth again, shooting 0,0,1,1, in 46:45. In ninth was Ty Hadrits, 17, Brainerd, NNW, shooting 3,3,3,3, in 50:40; 11th was Cam Christiansen, 15, Nisswa, NNW, shooting 2,0,2,2, in 53:25; 14th was Pelle Christiansen, shooting 2,2,5,2, in 57:29; and 24th was Ingebrigtson, shooting 3,5,1,2, in 1:04:54.
