BOYS HOCKEY: Roseau snaps Warriors' win streak

ROSEAU — Ryan Anderson stopped 26 shots and the Roseau Rams halted Brainerd’s 11-game win streak with a 2-0 victory over the Warriors in a Section 8-2A game Saturday.

Tanner Okeson scored a power-play goal in the first period and Alex Strand tallied in the second for Roseau, which lost at Brainerd 3-0 Jan. 18.

“We had some opportunities, especially in the last five minutes of the game,” Warriors coach Jim Archibald said. “We didn’t capitalize, obviously, but it’s a good lesson for the kids.

“We just have to carry on and keep working hard. We’ve got a destiny in mind down the road where we want to be headed.”

Brainerd was hampered by 18 minutes penalties in a scoreless third period.

“We were able to overcome the penalties, but it takes its toll on the guys,” Archibald said. “Some of our guys play a lot of shifts and also kill penalties.

“Close to the end of the game we had some opportunities. We had some shots from the point on power plays that quite easily could have gone in. We were right there.

“It wasn’t like they outplayed us, or anything like that. It was a good game, the boys worked hard. It just didn’t reflect that on the scoreboard.”

Brainerd has two conference (Willmar and Sartell) and two section (Buffalo and Bemidji) games remaining in the regular season.

“We split with Roseau, we split with Moorhead, we split with Tech,” Archibald said. “Our goal at the start of the year was the No. 1 or 2 position in the section seedings. It certainly would be nice to get No. 1 or 2 and get two home playoff games.”
