Boys Basketball: Spuds hand Warriors first loss

MOORHEAD — It took a record breaking performance to do it, but the Brainerd Warriors finally lost.

Moorhead’s Aaron Lien scored 53 points Friday to break the Spuds single-game scoring record of 45 set in 1967 to down the Warriors 95-93 in a Secton 8-4A matchup.

Brainerd was one of just three teams in the state still unbeaten, but saw an 18-point second-half lead dissappear.

Marcus Comstock led the Warriors with 32 points followed by Jack Sauer’s 21 and Jacob Blong’s 17. Sauer added eight assists and Blong grabbed eight rebounds.

It’s the third straight win for Moorhead, who improved to 9-5 overall and 5-0 against section opponents. Brainerd falls to 14-1 overall and 5-1 against section opponents.
