AREA BOYS HOCKEY: Swanson, Wolverines defeat Red Lake Falls

RED LAKE FALLS — Mitchell Swanson collected four points with a pair of goals and two assists as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines defeated the Red Lake Falls Eagles 6-3 in a non-conference game Tuesday.

Swanson has 43 goals on the season, good for second place in the state, and his 65 total points is also good for second.

Bridger Pettit also netted a pair of goals against the Eagles while Christian Berg and Mike Paavola each scored once.

The 12-9 Wolverines held a 30-22 shots on goal advantage with goalie Wesley Johnson registering 19 saves.

LONG PRAIRIE — Austin Bjorge and Ben Newman each netted two goals in the Little Falls Flyers’ 6-0 win over the Prairie Centre North Stars in a Section 6-1A game Tuesday night.

Newman and Bjorge’s second goals came short-handed in the third period when the North Stars were a man short for five minutes because of a major penalty for head contact.

Luke Majerle and Austin Fenske each scored once for the Flyers, who outshot Prairie Centre 34-13.

Michael Stumpf picked up the shutout in net for Little Falls, which improves to 16-5.

BREEZY POINT — Northern Lakes maintained a 3-2 lead and outshot Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin 21-4 in the third period, but the Lightning were unable to hold on and lost 4-3 in overtime to the Raiders in a non-conference game Tuesday.

Goalie Mitch Stangel took the loss and made 21 saves.

Netting goals for the 8-12 Lightning were Kegan Couture, Ben Moe and Aspen Florey.
