BOYS BASKETBALL: Win strengthens Warriors' conference lead

ST. CLOUD — Marcus Comstock, Jack Sauer and Jacob Blong scored in double figures as the Brainerd Warriors strengthened their Central Lakes Conference lead with a 78-59 win over the St. Cloud Tech Tigers Tuesday night.

Comstock connected for 23 points, Sauer for 20 and Blong for 14 as Brainerd improved to 9-0 in the CLC, 16-1 overall.

Brainerd, which beat Tech 79-47 Dec. 20, led 32-20 at the half and outscored the Tigers 46-39 in the second half.

“The first time we played Tech in Brainerd we got up on them early and kind of blew it open,” Warriors coach Scott Stanfield said. “Tech was able to mix it up quite a bit ... with their defensive sets. We had to be patient and figure out what they were doing. Once we got comfortable, late in the second half we spread the lead out.”

Andy Foley scored 20 points and Bryant Bohlig 15 for the Tigers.

“Tech had a good game plan coming in,” Stanfield said. “They weren’t going to be able to guard us man so Marcus and Jacob had good games underneath. Jack, in the second half, scored 17 points and hit three threes.”

Sauer finished 4 of 8 from 3-point as Brainerd played its ninth road game in its last 12 contests.

“It was a good conference win and a good section win on the road,” Stanfield said.

“That’s always hard.”
