Area Girls Basketball: Cardinals claim conference crown

PEQUOT LAKES — Kelly Pearson led eight Staples-Motley Cardinals scorers with 20 points in Thursday’s 76-57 Mid-State Conference victory over the Pequot Lakes Patriots.

Jaelin Beachy added 13 points, Mikayla Wing scored 12 and Jasmine McGillivray tallied 11 for the Cardinals, who claimed the conference championship with the win.

Pequot had five players score in double figures, led by Kayla Miller’s 13 points.

PIERZ — Bridget Bednar tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds to help the Pierz Pioneers edge Holdingford 62-47 in Thursday’s Central Minnesota Conference game.

Kayla Carter added 14 points for Pierz and Mickey Rocheleau and Alyssa Boser each added 10 points for Pierz.
