BASKETBALL: State champions crowned in Elks Hoop Shoot

Three girls and three boys from the Elks Central District competed in the Elks State Hoop Shoot free throw contest Feb. 9 at Hutchinson.

Two of the six won their age divisions — 8-year-old Carsen Turk from Crosby and 13-year-old Shayla Loiland from Crosby.

Carsen and Shayla will go on to the regional hoop shoot March 8-10 at Iowa City, Iowa. 

The Central District consists of Hutchinson, Willmar, Alexandria, Fergus Falls, Wadena and Brainerd. 

The six winners at the Central District Hoop Shoot, and went on to state, are as follows, including their placement at state and score: 

8-9: Kiera Radniecki, Wadena, second place, 17 made, 25 attempts 

8-9: Carsen Turk, Crosby, first, 20/25

10-11: Sara Kottke, Hutchinson, third, 7/25 

10-11: Cayden Turk, Crosby, fourth, 14/25

12-13: Shayla Loiland, Crosby, first, 19/25

12-13: Skylar Mursu, Wadena, third, 21/25 

The Elks Regional Hoop Shoot at Iowa City will consist of champions from Wisconsin, Illinois,  Iowa and Minnesota. Regional winners travel to Springfield, Mass., April 25-28 to compete in the Elks National Hoop Shoot.

National winners’ names will be inscribed on a plaque and displayed permanently at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.
