NORDIC SKIING: Brainerd's Holm section volunteer of year
Terry Holm’s passion for Nordic skiing has earned him Section 8 and state volunteer of the year honors.
The Brainerd resident is a familiar face at Nordic ski races around the state. He often suits up as a competitor, and frequently works at school races.
He helped clear ski trails in the 1970s and 1980s at Northland Arboretum in Baxter. Holm was also instrumental in encouraging the start of Brainerd’s competitive Nordic ski program.
His efforts to promote skiing have never stopped, even as he pursued personal skiing and inline skating honors, including national and world age group records.
Holm has been involved in leadership positions in the Minnesota Nordic Ski Association, Brainerd Nordic Ski Club, and the Lumberjack Jaunt Ski Race. He founded, and has directed for 12 years, the Baxter Inline Marathon. He also has directed, or worked with, inline skating, skiing, running, biking, and recreational trail clubs, programs and events.
His 40 years of competitive skiing experience continues to inspire young skiers. Holm works every local meet and travels around the state to serve in whatever capacity a meet manager needs. He also regularly assists the Brainerd High School team for practice and training.
Holm works several high school section meets annually and works at the state meet. His many hours of volunteering have earned him the section and state honor.
