Biathlon: Ruzich, Ingebrigtson first, Baker runner-up

Nisswa NW Biathletes competed on rollerskis in a 9.8-kilometer mass start event last weekend at Elk River.

Jenna Ruzich, 20, Baxter, NNW, was first overall in the women’s race Thursday, shooting 2,1,3,0, in 37:57. She entered the range with Siena Ellingson of Twin Cities Biathlon. In a head-to-head last shooting stage, Ruzich cleaned her targets to Ellingson’s three misses and followed with a fast 2km ski for the win by a minute.

Evan Ingebrigtson, 30, Baxter, NNW, was the top masters man, shooting 1,2,3,2, in 39:39 for the win.

Baker, 19, Nisswa, NNW, shot 2,2,2,4, in 33:06 to finish second overall behind Jalen Betsinger, 18, Madison Wis., who was also skiing for NNW. Betsinger shot 2,0,1,3 in 33:01 for the win.

Cam Christiansen, 16, NNW, was third overall, second in youth men’s, shooting 2,1,3,2, in 33:52. Gerrit Garberich, 18, Brainerd, NNW, was fourth overall, and third in youth men’s, shooting 2,1,4,3, in 34:18.

Pelle Christiansen, Nisswa, NNW, was fourth in the masters classes, shooting 3,4,4,3, in 49:00.

The next event will be at Jericho Center, Vt., at the North American Roller Ski Biathlon Championships Aug. 10-11 before returning to Elk River Aug. 22.
