Wiffle Ball: Big Whiff tournament Aug. 17 in Brainerd

Teams are needed to participate in Popsicle’s “The Big Wiff” tournament at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 at Mills Field in Brainerd.

Wiffle Ball teams of three to five people will play a round-robin tournament.

Championship games will be Aug. 18 at the Miracle League field in Minnetonka.

The Big Wiff will benefit the Miracle League of Minnesota, a non-profit organization that provides children with special needs the opportunity to play baseball on a team in an organized league.

Miracle League fields are made of special material and are custom-designed to accommodate wheelchairs and walking devices while helping to prevent injuries.

Wiffle Ball features no baserunning. Previous experience is not necessary to play. All skill levels are welcome.

Register your team at All ages are welcome. Registration is $100 per team.

Once registered, coaches will receive tournament details, schedules, rules and tips on how their team can raise additional funds for the Miracle League of Minnesota through pledges.

Team registration deadline is Aug. 13.

Championship games will feature winning teams from 10 locations. The tournament champion will be awarded a trip for all team members to attend spring training at Fort Myers, Fla.

Prizes will be awarded to the team that raises the most in pledges overall and at each location. Second- and third-place teams and best team costumes at each of the 10 sites will also be recognized.
