Area Girls Tennis: Four Gobblers head to section tournament

VIRGINIA — Aitkin’s Claire Browning captured the singles championship and three teammates also advanced to the Section 7-1A individual tournament after finishing in the top four of Wednesday’s North Subsection tournament at the Quad Cities Tennis Facility.

Browning beat Eveleth-Gilbert’s Amy Allen 6-1, 6-3 in the singles final.

The Gobblers’ doubles team of Lindy Lahmann-Sharbonda/Lisa Anderson finished third.

Aitkin’s Elise Courtemanche placed fourth in singles.

Elise Courtemanche (A) def. Morgan Flaherty (Duluth Marshall) 7-6 (8-6), 6-0

Rangers advance three

to section tournament

MORA — Crosby-Ironton’s Meredith Silgen-Shannon Lundgren won the doubles championship and the Rangers’ Gabrelle Hudrlik finished third in singles at the South Subsection 7-1A individual tournament Wednesday.

The top four singles players and the top four doubles teams advance to next week’s section meet at Virginia.

Silgen-Lundgren beat Foley’s Alycia Chmielewski-Kylee Funk 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) for the title.

Hudrlik lost to Foley’s Hattie Scott 6-1, 6-0 for third place.
