Boys Basketball: Warriors even overall record at 5-5

ALEXANDRIA — The Brainerd Warriors continued their string of solid defensive performances, but an improved offense was the key Friday night in a 63-47 win over Alexandria in a Central Lakes Conference game.

The Warriors’ Nick Schwen led all scorers with 23 points, and Isaiah Smith connected for 12 as Brainerd shot 56 percent from the field.

Defensively, Brainerd allowed the Cardinals to shoot just 31 percent from the field and held them to 19 first-half points.

“We had a great effort defensively. We have been playing really well defensively so the last few practices we have been working on developing more continuity with the offense and adding more layers to it,” said Warriors head coach Scott Stanfield. “They took what we learned in practice and applied it tonight and played really well.”

With the win, the Warriors moved to 3-2 in conference play while evening their overall record at 5-5.
