Boys Basketball: Warriors solve Storm zone in CLC victory

SAUK RAPIDS — Practice paid off for the Brainerd Warriors as they defeated the winless Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm 71-53 in Central Lakes Conference action Friday night.

Isaiah Smith led the Warriors in scoring with 19 points and the Warriors shot 43 percent from the field. Hunter Casper also finished in double figures with 10 points.

Defensively, Brainerd held the Storm to 23 first-half points.

“They played a 1-2-2 and a 2-3 zone. We knew they would and had played against it all week in practice,” said Warriors head coach Scott Stanfield. “We were tentative at times, but we had some good high-low action, and we hit some threes.”

With the win, the Warriors evened their overall record at 6-6, and moved to 4-2 in conference play.
