Boys Basketball: Warriors steal road win from Rocori
Brainerd MN 506 James St. / PO Box 974 56401

COLD SPRING — Logan McElfresh made a three-point play and hit two other late free throws to help the Brainerd Warriors seal a 56-50 Central Lakes Conference victory over the Rocori Spartans Saturday.

McElfresh finished with nine points and four rebounds and was 3-for-3 from the free throw line.

“We played a great defensive game with 12 steals and out rebounded them 42-28,” said Warrior head coach Scott Stanfield. “Offensively, we started out strong in the first half and missed several close in looks and open lay ups, which kept the score in reach for Rocori at halftime.”

Brainerd held a 36-21 halftime lead, but were outscored 29-20 in the second half. Neither team shot the ball well as Brainerd finished 20-57 (35 percent) and Rocori was 18-46 (39 percent).

“The second half we struggled again hitting close in looks, free throws and lay ups,” Stanfield said. “We regained our composer late.”

Isaiah Smith led the Warriors with 13 points to go with five rebounds and three steals and point guard Logan Madsen finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and six steals.

The post duo of Nick Schwen and Kobe Ahonen combined for 15 points and 14 rebounds.

“Kobe and Nick both rebounded well and defended well inside,” Stanfield said. “Our perimeter players played great perimeter defense and accounted for most of our 12 steals.”

It’s the third straight win for the Warriors, who after Tuesday’s trip to Fergus Falls will enjoy six home games in their next seven.
