BUFFALO — Maria West posted 23 points while Kylee Heurung added 21 for Brainerd as the Warriors downed Buffalo 67-57 in Saturday’s Section 8-4A game.

Jenna Degen added 10 points for a Warriors team that hit 17 of 37 (46 percent) from the floor, 9-15 (60 percent) from beyond the arc, and 24-28 (86 percent) from the line.

“This was a big win for us,” Warriors coach Troy Nelson said. “We have been talking about building toward the section tournament and this was a great step for us against a good section opponent.

“We fell behind by seven points early in the first half, but battled back through some adversity to take the lead at the half. We shot very well, executed on both ends of the floor, and played with excellent energy and desire.

“I am so proud of how the girls battled and it was great to see how excited they were after the game.”
