Biathlon: Baker wins race, Christiansen second

Zean Baker, Nisswa, a member of Nisswa Northwest Biathlon Club, won the 12.5km mass start race Sunday at Snowflake Nordic Center in Duluth.

Baker shot 3,1,2,3, and finished in 50:25.

Cam Christiansen, Nisswa, and NNW, was second overall and first in the youth men category, shooting 2,1,1,1, and finishing in 50:49. In fourth place was Zach Nelson, NNW, shooting 3,3,4,4, in 54:53.

Gerrit Garberich, Brainerd, and NNW, was sixth overall, and third in youth men, shooting 4,3,1,3, in 58:35.

In the women’s race, Jenna Ruzich, Baxter, and NNW, shot 1,1,1,4, and finished in 1:07:56 for seventh place overall men and women.

Nelson, Garberich and Ruzich also skied the 10km Book Across the Bay race in Ashland, Wis., on Saturday night with Nelson finishing 10th overall and Ruzich finishing as the seventh female overall.

In addition, Garberich completed the 25km Finlandia skate race Saturday morning in fourth place overall.

The next event will be the American Birkebeiner at Telemark, Wis., next weekend, followed by a Minnesota/Wisconsin Biathlon Championship race March 1-2 at Madison, Wis.
