Legion Baseball: Nisswa cruises into championship game

VIRGINIA—David Benson's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh enabled the Nisswa American Legion team to nip Superior, Wis., 3-2 in the semifinals of the Land of the Loon Tournament Saturday.

Hunter Wicklund finished 2-for-3 and Bryce Flanagan was 1-3 with a double and RBI.

McCale Peterson got the win in relief. In the final 1.1 innings, he allowed no hits and no runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

Connor Knettel pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs (1 earned), walked none and struck out two.

Nisswa played the Grand Rapids/Duluth West winner for the championship at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

VIRGINIA—Hunter Wicklund went 4-for-6 as Nisswa opened the Land of the Loon Tournament with an 18-5 dismantling of International Falls Friday.

Colin Kleffman was 3-6 with two doubles, McCale Peterson was 3-6 with four RBIs and David Benson finished 2-5 with three RBIs.

Bryce Flanagan got the win, allowing one hit and no walks in three innings with three strikeouts.

Max Boran started and went three innings, giving up three hits and four runs (3 earned) with seven walks and three strikeouts.
