Bowling: Volunteers needed for Special Olympics state tournament at Jack's House

Nearly 500 Special Olympic athletes will hit the lanes at the Special Olympics Minnesota state bowling competition Nov. 9-11 at Jack's House in Brainerd.

Volunteers are needed to help make the event successful. Volunteer opportunities include assisting as a lane monitor, preparing and handing out awards and serving lunches.

Volunteers must be 15 years of age and will receive a T-shirt. Volunteers not only impact Special Olympics athletes but they also walk away with lifetime memories.

Bowling is one of the most popular sports for Special Olympians. Although minor modifications of rules are made for athletes with physical disabilities, most Special Olympians perform under the same guidelines as professional bowlers. In Special Olympics bowling, competitors are separated into categories based on ability level and age.
