Ice Racing: Borden wins two

CROSSLAKE — Merrifield’s Matt Borden held off 11 other drivers to win the studded tire class during Saturday’s ice races at Crosslake.

Clyde Brodt of Manhattan Beach finished second followed by Brainerd’s Chard Erlandson in third.

Dylan Nelson won the 15-and-under youth division. He held off the brother duo of Connor Pratt, who was second, and Logan Pratt in third.

Borden made it a double as he won the rubber tire class followed by Nelson in second and Connor Pratt in third.

Isaac Wannebo of Manhattan Beach captured the season’s first road coarse competition. Lindstrom’s Steve Omann was second followed by Chad Bailles of Breezy Point in third.

Jake Borden won the 15-and-under class. Brainerd’s Keith Hall was second and Logan Pratt third.

In the rubber tire class, Nelson won with Connor Pratt second and Kyle Hall third.

Ice Racing is held noon Saturdays on Big Pine Lake, two miles south of downtown Crosslake.

There is no admission for spectators, who can take the public water access off Big Pine Trail and follow the plowed road to the spectator area south at the south end of the race track.
